NDP calls for Gravelle to be removed from Liberal caucus

QUEEN’S PARK — The Ontario NDP is calling on Steven Del Duca to stop his caucus and party’s mixed messaging on vaccines by removing Liberal MPP Michael Gravelle (Thunder Bay—Superior North) from caucus. Gravelle has repeatedly advocated for frontline health care workers who refuse to get the vaccine — like home care workers.

NDP Deputy Leader Sara Singh released the following statement:

“It’s important that Queen’s Park sends a clear message to Ontarians to get vaccinated, and that anti-vaccine ideology has no place here — especially in health care and education settings. It’s scary to think of unvaccinated workers go right into the homes of the most vulnerable people, and that’s why the NDP supports the mandatory vaccination of health care workers.

I think that protecting public health is more important than Liberal Leader Steven Del Duca’s priority of holding on to one his party’s remaining seven seats. For that reason, the Ontario NDP is calling for Mr. Del Duca to remove Michael Gravelle from the Liberal caucus, and ensure he is not a candidate for the Liberal party in 2022.

It’s time for Del Duca to do the right thing. So far, he’s been focused on protecting his caucus and trying to regain power – not on protecting Ontarians and our health care system.”
